Title: Paying for a Service I Can't Use - Ahrefs' "Suspicious Activity" Nightmare
My Experience with Ahrefs Support:I'm a paying customer who recently shifted my business focus to analyzing expired domains for purchase and resale. This is 100% legitimate business use.The Problem:Despite STAYING WITHIN MY PAID PLAN LIMITS, Ahrefs keeps flagging my account for "suspicious activity" and restricting my access daily. I'm literally paying for a service I cannot use.Their Response:When I explained my legitimate business use case, their support team essentially told me:"Your usage pattern deviates from the norm""We need to protect our resources"They keep applying restrictions even though I'm NOT exceeding my rate limitsThe Reality:They're using "security measures" as an excuse to prevent paying customers from actually using what they paid for. My work changed - that doesn't make it suspicious or abusive. What's Particularly Frustrating:I offered to upgrade to a higher plan - they didn't provide clear guidanceI'm a single user, not sharing my accountI'm within my subscription limitsThey keep restricting me anywayAccount Protection at the Expense of Customers:Ahrefs claims they need to "protect resources," but there are technical solutions that don't punish legitimate paying customers. Other SEO tools (SEMrush, Moz) handle high-volume domain analysis without these issues.Bottom Line:If your work involves analyzing multiple domains regularly, be warned: Ahrefs may restrict your account even when you're staying within your paid limits. Their "suspicious activity" system appears to prioritize automation over legitimate business use cases.I'm now forced to consider alternatives like SEMrush or Moz because I literally cannot do my job with these constant restrictions.Save your money and frustration - look elsewhere if you need reliable, consistent access for domain analysis work.

$249/month paid, still treated like a criminal – Ahrefs abuses its monopoly
I paid $249 per month for Ahrefs with a clear purpose: finding expired domains and analyzing referring domains using Batch Analysis. While doing manual research, Ahrefs suddenly blocked my usage with the message “Suspicious activity detected” and accused me of using bots. This is unacceptable.I contacted support and clearly told them:I am a real, paying userI was using Ahrefs manuallyNo automation, no scripts, no abuseInstead of providing logs, proof, or real explanation, the support agent simply sent me a privacy / usage policy link and ended the conversation.Let’s be honest:If heavy usage is not allowed, WHY sell a $249 plan? Why not show clear hard limits inside the tool? Why randomly accuse users of bot activity without evidence? This behavior clearly shows Ahrefs acts like they are the only SEO tool in the market, ignoring basic customer respect.Blocking access first and explaining later (or not explaining at all) is bad business practice.Ahrefs is expensive, arrogant, and unsafe for serious SEO professionals who actually use the tool heavily.

It's sad how ahref has dropped
It's sad how ahref has dropped. It can no longer be relied on to have accurate data. It used to be great however, since this Google update, ahrefs keyword rankings just can't be used. Which makes the whole system just pointless. They need to fix this asap.

Ahrefs has bAhrefs has become increasingly unstable and unreliableecome increasingly unstable…
Ahrefs has become increasingly unstable and unreliable over the past year. The data it reports is often disconnected from reality in Google. It rarely discovers new referring domains and frequently ignores mentions from major news outlets or academic institutions. Meanwhile, toxic or low-quality links appear instantly in the reports, almost as if they are being prioritized over legitimate editorial sources. The DR score fluctuates randomly, rising and dropping overnight without any real SEO changes. Backlink counts disappear or reappear with no explanation. Technical audits sometimes flag problems that do not exist, giving the impression that the platform is trying to force upgrades. Traffic estimations are wildly inaccurate when compared to Google Search Console or other reputable tools. It’s strange to see major media organizations missing entirely while redirects or manipulated links are fully counted. The overall experience feels inconsistent and misleading. For a tool that presents itself as an industry leader with the “largest index,” the current performance does not live up to the marketing. Unless Ahrefs significantly improves the accuracy and stability of its systems, it risks becoming a product that looks good on paper but fails to deliver reliable SEO data for real-world use.

Outdated Refund Policy & Not Competitive With Industry Standards
I signed up for Ahrefs hoping it could replace Semrush for my agency. After putting the platform through real-world testing, it became clear very quickly that it doesn’t meet the needs of professional SEOs who manage multiple clients and rely heavily on local data, competitive insights, and robust reporting.Key limitations I experienced during evaluation:Local SEO data is far less comprehensive than competitorsKeyword database coverage is noticeably thinnerRank tracking lacks essential features for agenciesCompetitive gap analysis is limitedReporting options are not client-friendly or presentation-readyThese aren’t minor issues they’re core parts of an SEO workflow. When I requested a refund within the same billing cycle, Ahrefs denied it due to a strict “non-use only” refund policy. This means that the moment you actually use the product to evaluate it, you automatically lose the ability to get a refund even if the tool clearly does not meet your needs. This policy is far behind current industry standards.Semrush, Moz, SpyFu, Surfer, BrightLocal, and almost every serious SaaS in this space offer a 7–30 day refund window regardless of usage, because they understand something fundamental:You cannot evaluate an SEO platform without actually using it.Ahrefs’ policy essentially penalizes customers for doing responsible due diligence. The support agent I spoke with was courteous, but repeatedly stressed that nothing could be done because of internal policy. Even after providing clear, detailed feedback on why the platform wasn’t suitable for my agency, the refund was still denied. For any SEO professional considering Ahrefs, be aware:There is effectively no meaningful trial period, and no real path to a refund once you begin evaluating the tool. This experience left me with concerns not just about the product limitations, but about the customer experience philosophy behind the company. In a competitive industry where nearly all major platforms support fair evaluation windows, Ahrefs’ hardline refund stance feels out of touch with modern SaaS expectations.I hope Ahrefs leadership will seriously reconsider this outdated policy. It’s not customer-friendly, not competitive, and ultimately discourages professionals from giving the platform a fair chance.

“No results found” service without a refund
I paid $30 for the Starter plan. When using the service, I got “No results found” which means that they don't have any data on the topic I need in their database, and I technically can't get any benefit from this service. I wrote to support about my situation and requested a refund. They replied that I am “not qualified” for a refund because I had already used credits (read, tryed to use their service).

The data is accurate and the features…
The data is accurate and the features are plenty, but the interface feels heavy — some reports are hard to understand without experience. The price is high, and it’s not always clear what you’re paying extra for. It works well, but isn’t the easiest or most intuitive tool. Good for experienced SEO users, but beginners may find it difficult to navigate.
